about
as an artist my making is a portal into creative encounter with other, considering the way we merge and emerge through relationship. my current work explores whether a shared particpatory walking/listening/sounding-with art practice enables a radical reimagining of self in relationship - a re-membering that we are kin / of the same stuff as the multiplicity of earth around us.
engaging with place through deep listening, collective intuitive and improvised sound-making, the sharing of song and story and the creation of sound-collage, my practice considers art-making as entanglement. extending into the imaginary, inhabiting story, improvising with the world around. my work draws on the mythic, folkloric, and ritual - and rejects binaries of institutionalised colonialism.
i am a folk singer, improvising musician and activist, also as a community facilitator and natural voice choir leader. i am also one half of experimental-folk duo alula down, and when i mention 'we' i usually mean my work with Mark Waters.
